Dr. Marshall is a nephrologist who was trained in New Zealand and the United States.  He is a clinician and researcher at Middlemore Hospital, and an honorary Associate Professor at the University of Auckland.

Until recently, he was the Clinical Director of nephrology at Counties Manukau Health, and the Chair of the National Renal Advisory Board. His current activities include several large scale multicenter research projects, as well as duties related to his recent appointment as the director of medical affairs for Baxter Healthcare in the Asia Pacific region. 

He has a fervent interest in the improvement of health service delivery, and was responsible for developing the strategy and tactics for improving live kidney donation in South Auckland as well as wider New Zealand.
